episode 1 - cañon city
At the hospital, the new interns are getting their lessons from the second year residents. First up is Dr. Ray Barnett (Shane West). Being supervised by Susan (Sherry Stringfield) and Gregory (Mekhi Phifer), Ray is argumentative, impatient and overbearing with the interns. They tell him he needs to teach them, not belittle them.
Because Ray won't let any of the interns do the work on their own, the board begins to clutter up due to the inefficiency of his micromanagement. When his shift finally ends, Neela (Parminder Nagra) takes over and tries to teach the interns the technicalities of everything, setting the ER back even further. However, a stab wound interrupts her lessons. She lets Ray take over but he screws up, so she has to perform the operation on her own.
Neela's intern remains with her through the night, but he misdiagnoses every patient he sees. She yells at him and tells him he needs to be thorough, systematic and meticulous. He's missed everything and she's been correcting him all night. She makes him cry.
As day breaks, Abby (Maura Tierney) takes over for Neela. She teaches a new batch of interns but the board is completely filled by this time. Abby tries to clear the board because Neela's interns weren't able to handle the load. She does a quick round and makes everyone's lives easier.

episodio 2 - nobody's baby
Neela, Ray, and Abby were all taking new interns under their wings. It was easy for the interns to get confused on their first day because each doctor was giving them different advice on how to do things.
Ray was arguing with Dr. Coburn about their pregnant patient, Claire. Claire was refusing to have any kind of surgery to save her baby's life, but Ray thought that since Claire was just a surrogate mother, the real woman who should have a voice should be the woman she was carrying the baby for. Coburn said as long as the baby was in Claire's body, she got all final say in what happens.
Claire had a difficult birth and when her son was born, he was not breathing. Ray was still giving attitude to Claire for not having a C-section and was kicked out of the OR. He told the parents that Claire was having the baby for the news and said their son had possible neurological damage. The father wanted nothing to do with his son after hearing about his damage.
While the doctors in the ER were looking for Ray, he was still in Labor and Delivery with Claire's baby. He didn't want to leave his side. He told Dr. Coburn that the baby didn't have any visitors, not even his own parents. Ray didn't think the baby should spend his first night alone.

episode 3 - man with no name
Neela prepares a care package for Michael in Iraq. She asks everyone to contribute something, even Frank, who adds porn. But she can't figure out what to send Michael personally. She tells Abby she made him a mix CD and wrote him a poem, but Abby remarks that those things are too "high school." She says a man at war has certain needs and persuades Neela to take risqué pictures of herself instead.

episodio 4 - blame it on the rain
A big thunderstorm hits outside the hospital and the ER braces for the onslaught of traffic accidents.
Meanwhile, the fender benders begin piling up and a woman, Judy, and her baby daughter, Grace, are brought in from an alleged hit and run/carjacking. The baby is in bad shape and Neela questions Judy about what happened. She tells Neela that she didn't need to go out in the rain, she could've waited, but someone simply ran her off the road.
While Grace is still being looked at, a police officer brings in mug shots for Judy to go over. Judy doesn't want to look at the books because she didn't know that her daughter's car seat was clicked in. She made up the story about being carjacked and she deliberately got in the accident. Neela asks her if she purposely hurt her daughter. Judy vehemently denies that she would do anything to Grace, but Neela thinks she has postpartum depression.
Neela asks Brad, Judy's husband, if Judy drinks or does drugs or if there's been any change in her mood. Brad flies off the handle and demands to get their daughter back so they can leave. Neela has a hospital psychiatrist check on Judy, but she denies that she talked to Neela at all and as a result, the psychiatrist can't do anything. Judy and Brad leave with Grace, despite Neela's protestations.

episode 5 - wake up
The staff is shorthanded when a drug addict is brought in. Neela and Ray decide to help the patient without calling in Victor because he's getting on all their nerves. Victor walks in and helps the patient, pointing out that Ray and Neela were misdiagnosing him. He says that even though he's a pain in the ass, it should never get in the way of patient care.
Neela confronts Victor but he tells her that patients always come first and there's always something more to learn.

episodio 6 - dream house
Neela walks into her bathroom to find Zoe, Ray's date, using her toothbrush. Neela leaves the apartment in disgust.
In the ER, Victor tells Abby he needs to secure a very private room for a VIP infant. He tells Abby it's a special case and needs to be treated on the down low... because the baby is a monkey.
Victor attends to the monkey with Abby. She asks Neela to help out, and they take care of the chimp while Victor leaves to see to another patient.
Zoe comes into the hospital asking Neela for help. She says it burns when she pees. Neela says it's probably a bladder infection and she can get it from having too much sex. But when she tells Neela her date of birth, Neela realizes she's only 14 years old. Neela tells Ray about it, and he flips out. In addition, Zoe also has chlamydia.
After being released from the ER, the chimp is forced to come back. The antibiotics didn't work and only made things worse. Abby gives the monkey CPR but they can't revive him. They bring the chimp's mother in to see the baby before he dies.

episode 7 - the human shield
Neela is dressed up because Michael is coming home from Iraq. Everyone comments on how great she looks.
EMT Tony Gates (John Stamos) brings Vincent into the emergency room. Vincent wakes up suddenly and violently attacks Neela and Luka. They sedate him before one of the police officers shoots him.
Vincent says he wants to see Sydney. He says she needs him. Lucien assists Neela and they work on Vincent's bullet wounds. Neela gets a call from Iraq but she can't take it because she's in the middle of the surgery. Lucien saves Vincent and Neela is impressed.
Tony the EMT asks Neela about the girl and Vincent. He then asks Neela out. He tells her he's in medical school but she declines because she's still waiting on Michael. Neela calls the Iraq number back but she's interrupted by Zoe's father. He brings Zoe into the ER, demanding to know why she's been given prescription drugs. Neela tells him nothing. Ray tries to intervene but Neela says that if he tells the truth, he'll go to jail.
Neela finally gets through to the base in Iraq. She's told there's bad news but the phone breaks up before she gets the details. Michael isn't injured, but he can't come home because of the problems. Michael's leave is postponed.
Neela and Ray leave the hospital and Zoe's dad beats the crap out of Ray. He tells him that if he ever touches Zoe again, he'll kill him.

episode 8 - two ships
EMT Tony Gates (John Stamos) brings in a man, Martin Trudeau, for shortness of breath. Neela rides along because she still has to fulfill her hours of EMT work.
Ray is still suffering from the beating from Zoe's father. Zoe comes into the hospital looking for him and leaves him a make-up mix CD. Ray hides from her.
A passenger jet crashes in the neighborhood and the hospital is about to be overrun.
Neela and Tony arrive immediately on the scene. It looks like a war zone. They begin assessing emergencies and start treating patients.
Victor prepares for the onslaught of patients. Abby and Luka arrive to assist and Ray controls the floor, deciding who comes and goes.
Greg arrives at the crash scene to help Neela and Tony and the other EMT's. A fireman leads him into the plane where one of the passengers actually survived. He helps another man who can't feel his arm.
Tony and Neela continue helping people when a woman, Alice Watson (Serena Williams), comes running out of her building in hysterics because her son is trapped inside.
The scene gets worse when Alice runs into the building to find her son. The building explodes as Neela chases after her. Neela survives and so does Alice, but they're stuck. Neela decides to rush upstairs to try and find Alice's son, despite warnings from the rescue workers.
Neela finds the boy and tries to escape the building, but the smoke is beginning to overtake her. The firefighters rescue her and lecture her about putting everyone in danger. In addition, she loses the man she was treating earlier.
Neela can barely breathe, but she helps treat Tony, who was also pulled out of the building. Tony's liver is in danger and Neela has to open him up right at the crash site.
At the hospital, Greg and Ray try to save another man's life, Adrian. Ray yells at Greg for leaving Neela behind.
Neela brings in Tony with his packed up liver. The doctors can't believe she was able to do it in the field. Abby treats her for smoke inhalation. She tells Abby how terrifying it all was, but she's running high on the adrenaline. Neela finds out that Alice Watson died. She talks to Alice's kids, who she helped save.
Back with Adrian, Ray continues pumping his chest to keep his heart beating. They both spot Neela in another room, safe and sound. Adrian's family comes in to see him as they keep pumping. Adrian places his hand on Greg's, indicating that he should stop. Greg does and Adrian dies in front of his family.
Neela wants to go home, but Abby thinks she needs a chest X-ray. Neela disregards her even when Abby tells her she slept with Luka and leaves.
Meanwhile, Neela goes home and there, arriving by taxi, is Mike. He's back from the war a nice end to a tragic day.

episode 9 - i do
Mike is home and he and Neela make up for lost time in bed, the shower and everywhere else. Mike wants to get married immediately no family and no preparations. It catches Neela completely off guard.
Jerry offers to preside over Neela and Mike's wedding. He's a Universal Life Minister and likes to refer to himself as Father Superior.
Neela asks Abby to be her maid of honor and Abby tells her she's had a complete brain lapse because she's getting married so quickly. Abby asks Neela if she even KNOWS Mike. Neela says she loves Michael and just wants Abby's support.
Lucien and Neela work on a patient and discuss Neela's wedding as they operate. Everyone asks her lots of wedding questions and she doesn't want to talk about it. She'd rather focus on the patient clearly irritated with the whole business.
Lucien guides Neela in a surgical procedure she performs beautifully and they save the patient. Michael joins her and tells her that maybe everything has gone too fast but he just wants them to be together. He asks her properly if she'll marry him again, today.
Kerry, Archie and Ray work on a man, Harry, who fell in a pond while playing ice hockey. Archie corrects Kerry in front of the others and they proceed using his diagnosis. Harry loses his pulse and Kerry is again second-guessed by Archie. Kerry is clearly miffed and leaves the room, but Archie saves Harry's life. Kerry feels like she's been away from the ER too long.
The wedding is moved to the bar and Neela and Michael finally arrive dressed in their best. Jerry marries them and there's a big party afterwards. Kerry talks to Archie and tells him that she had a lot of respect for how he handled the trauma patient. She tells him she's going to start spending more time down in the ER.
Michael and Neela take the train home and they both look like they're having second thoughts about getting married.

episode 10 - all about christmas eve
It's Christmas and Luka gives gifts to all the EMTs, nurses, staff, and kids around the hospital. He also sends a lot of staff home early because on Christmas they don't usually need the help. Neela wins a rock-paper-scissors game against Pratt and Ray, and goes off to her honey moon with Michael.
Ray brings in a traffic accident patient and the woman, Tamara, starts seizing. They can't figure out what's wrong with her, but they are at least able to bring her to a normal state.
Haleh needs back up singers for the Christmas party and Archie offers his services. Kerry says she takes this annual event seriously. Haleh tells Archie she's holding auditions later if he wants to sign up.
Luka and Ray explain to Tamara that her sodium levels are way off the charts and they need to keep her in the hospital for observation. Tamara wants to go home because she can't leave her kids on Christmas. Luka advises her not to leave, and says she should be monitored. episode 11 - if not now
Neela wheels in Kerry because she fell on the ice. Ray asks for a few weeks off because his band got a recording deal and he needs to leave for Los Angeles. She says there's no way.
Neela helps Amanda and they run a test on her urine. She's pregnant and she's only 15 years old. She says she could never have an abortion because it's against God's will. She says her parents won't understand — they'll say she's sinned.
Amanda's parents come to the hospital and she tells them she's pregnant. Mr. Ramsey asks Neela to leave. He later tells Neela that they won't need any other assistance. Neela tries to give her an option for an abortion but he won't hear about it because he's Catholic.
Ray tries to convince Kerry to let him leave for Los Angeles for a month with his band. She still says no and tells him he's too valuable to lose. He says that if he can't do it, he'll consider quitting. So she accepts his resignation without him offering it. He's completely caught off guard.
Neela discharges Amanda but she's still unsure about the baby. The girl says she was at a party and she passed out. When she woke up, her pants were down and there was blood everywhere — she was raped. Neela tries to get her parents to change their minds but Luka asks her to stop. Neela than asks Luka's permission to discuss the case with another attending physician — one who isn't Catholic. Luka tells her that he's a doctor before anything else and never lets his personal views interfere with his duties. He forces Neela to move on.
Brett, one of Ray's band members, meets Ray and tells him that because he's been so distracted with being a doctor, they've decided to kick him out of the band.

episode 12 - split decisions
Victor doesn't show up for work and Lucien offers to fill in for him as the chief attending physician. Kerry sees Ray walking the floor and wants to know why he's there. "Didn't you quit?" she asks. Ray pretends to not know what she's talking about and continues to do his rounds. She's quietly glad he's there to stay.
Lucien congratulates Neela, telling her she's been accepted into the surgical elective. Zoe visits Ray again at the hospital. He starts to yell at her until he sees her face has been busted open. He treats her and finds out that there's no permanent damage, but she broke her ulna. Zoe tries to tell him she fell, but Ray doesn't believe her. She finally tells him that it's her father who beat her.
Ray finds out that Zoe ran away from home, but when her father found her, he beat her. Her father used to beat her sister too, and now she lives in San Francisco. Ray wants to call the police but Zoe is scared and thinks he'll come looking for her. She asks Ray if she can move in with him.
The cops and social services come to visit Zoe. They tell Ray that if he can't find someone to take her, she's going to a foster home. The cops are also on their way to arrest her father.
Michael brings Neela to a VA hospital to see a friend of his from the war. His friend is in a wheelchair but still wants to go back to Iraq. He wants Mike to talk to someone and pull strings so he can go back. Michael is really affected by seeing the soldiers and he tells Neela he also wants to go back to Iraq. He says the soldiers need him more than she does.
Ray gets Zoe a flight to San Francisco. He takes her keys and says he'll ship her stuff to her sister's house. Her father shows up at the last second but Ray kicks his ass and she gets away.
Neela and Michael discuss his desire to go back to Iraq. He says his life has clarity over there. She doesn't want to be abandoned. She says she'll go with him to Iraq but he won't let her. Michael says he can't stay at home knowing that there's a war going on and if she loved him, she would understand that. Neela counters that she does love him, but she doesn't know him.

episode 13 - body and soul
A man in a wheel chair, Dr. Nate Lennox (James Woods), wheels out onto the ice at a skating rink. He's disoriented and told to leave by the rink staff. An ambulance brings him to the ER. Ray helps but Lennox keeps trying to roll his way out of the hospital. Via a computer on the wheel chair, he asks them to let him out.
The doctors X-ray Lennox and try to figure out what's wrong with him. His oxygen levels are falling and they realize he has Lou Gehrig's disease. Sam remembers seeing Lennox when she and Neela treated him about a year ago for shortness of breath. He was teaching a class and couldn't continue.
A year ago: Neela treats Lennox and tells him she placed out of his class but she was in awe of his work when she was in school. A woman named Fran Bevens comes into the hospital to make sure he's okay.
Present day: Fran is again at the hospital to see Lennox. Luka asks her to come outside and wants to know if they should operate on him or just make him comfortable for the inevitable. Abby immediately suctions out his lungs and says they should give him a tracheotomy so he can make it through the day. Otherwise, Lennox might not live.
Lennox gets a new feeding tube and Abby tests his lung function it's barely registering. Abby tells Lennox that the best way for them to help his breathing is to give him a tracheotomy. She thinks he won't recover without it. He says okay — using his computer. But Lennox then says, "I'm okay," and there's confusion over whether he wants the procedure or not.
Lucien and Neela come down to operate on Lennox and insert the tracheotomy into his throat. There's a minor complication and he starts bleeding profusely. They can't give him morphine because he'd had a bad reaction to it in 2001, when he had a broken wrist.
They continue operating on Lennox and Lucien says he's never seen anything like this. They clear the problem and his tracheotomy is a success. Unfortunately, the blood loss may have deprived his brain of oxygen. Fran says she doesn't want help at home because all the caregivers they've had, he's sent away. She wants to take him home because she promised him she would.
Lennox finally comes to and wants to know what they've been doing to him. He didn't want the tracheotomy because he believes that once the disease affects his facial muscles, he may as well be dead. He asks Abby to take the tracheotomy tube out, but she says she can't do it. He also wants to go home, and Abby doesn't want to discharge him.
Lennox wheels himself out of the hospital and Abby begs him to stay for two more days. He says he's too tired to keep fighting the disease. She wants him to stay alive long enough to find a cure. If he doesn't recover, she says she'll be there to assist him with dying comfortably. Abby convinces him to stay in the hospital and he's impressed by how good of a doctor she's become. She says she owes it all to him, when she took his class in 1999.

episode 14 - quintessence of dust
Greg clears the board and takes off for a charity event — the 50 hottest bachelors. He says that Olivia is fine with a bunch of rich white women bidding on a black man on a stage. At the charity auction, the women bid like crazy for him, but at the end a man chimes in and buys Greg for $600.
Greg returns from the auction and tells them the winning bidder was a man. He's having dinner with a guy. All the other doctors laugh at him.
A homeless man, Dexter Jenkins, is brought in and Abby, Luka and Ray help out.
Victor and Jody are going back to his apartment and Bobby, her husband, is waiting for them there. He tells Jody to pack up her stuff and come with him. She says she's not leaving. She tells Bobby that she filed papers and wants a divorce. Bobby leaves without incident... until he comes back, firing a gun.
Victor screeches into the hospital parking lot with Jody, she's all shot up. Abby and Luka help out and they all think Victor shot Jody. Victor is still coked up and bothering everyone in the ER. Greg catches him and finds that he's bleeding also, he's been shot in the arm. They need a surgeon for Jody and they call Lucien.
Neela helps out with Victor and they have to restrain him as he keeps trying to interfere with Jody's treatment.
Neela and Lucien operate on Jody and Albright comes in to assist. Neela doesn't know what she's doing. Archie comes into the OR to yell at Albright for messing around with his ER patients. Lucien tells her she needs to leave the OR if she wants to get into it with Archie, because they have to operate on Jody.
Victor sneaks into the operating room and Lucien tells him he can observe from outside, but if he says one word he's out. Neela operates but Victor interrupts every five seconds. Lucien wants Neela to operate because she needs to learn how to do it properly.
Ray continues to attend to Dexter Jenkins. Ray realizes he's an old blues great who once played with Muddy Waters and B.B. King. He finds Jenkins' wallet and it has a picture of his daughter in it. Ray finds Jenkins daughter and brings her in to see him. Dexter congratulates her on her wedding and tells her he doesn't want her money. She wants him to come home and live with her again, but he says that simply isn't him.
Neela continues to operate and Lucien oversees. The delicate operation gives her a 45-minute window to save Jody's liver. Greg comes into the observation room and wants to talk to Victor. He says they tested for cocaine in their blood. Victor tells Greg that Jody is the only person who can corroborate his story.
Greg's date shows up and she turns out to be a beautiful woman. The woman tells Greg that her friend bought her the date because she'd been through some bad breakups. All the boys in the ER are jealous.
Victor comes in to see Neela. She performed the operation perfectly and probably saved Jody's life. Victor thanks her. She says it was the best she could do.

episode 15 - darfur
Dr. Rasgotra and Pratt came to blows while treating Jose in the emergency room. Pratt grilled Rasgotra in front of all her peers and Abby came to her defense. Rasgotora was taking Jose for a scan when the police arrived, hoping to question Jose on who had hit him. Pratt overheard Jose describe the familiar face and truck that hit him.
Pratt confessed to Rasgotra that he changed the blood work on Darnell's alcohol test weeks earlier, so he would get out of a drunk driving violation. Pratt said he felt guilty because if he hadn't done that, Jose wouldn't have been hit by Darnell and in the condition he was in. Rasgotra agreed with Pratt and also felt he should follow his own advice and tell Kovac what had happened.

episodio 16 - out on a limb
Barnett pointed out that Weaver was not strong enough to perform surgery on a patient's dislocated shoulder, so he took over. A prideful Weaver was grateful for Barnett's help. She decided to dispel her doubts and go forward with the hip replacement surgery.
Neela attended a support group for women whose husbands were in Iraq. Women reacted differently to Neela once they learned she was against the war all together. Neela didn't mean to cause a debate about the war in Iraq, but that was exactly what she did.
Ray continues to attend to Dexter Jenkins. Ray realizes he's an old blues great who once played with Muddy.
After she left the support group, Neela headed home and found Barnett on her couch. Earlier, he'd bragged about the hot date he had planned that night, but when Neela found him he was alone. She asked him if he'd been stood up, and a sensitive Barnett admitted he was. They ended their night together on the couch in front of the television, with a couple of beers and a new episode of the "World Poker Tour" that Ray had recorded for Neela earlier.

episodio 17 - lost in america
Neela was nervous about having to give a big presentation at a surgeon's convention. Ray calmed her down and assured her she was going to be fine. They had an awkward pause before Neela rushed out of the apartment.
Ray had to inform his suicidal patient, Barry, that his overdose was not a real suicide attempt. Barry was only concerned about the attempt counting, and staying overnight at the hospital. The psych ward wouldn't take Barry because of overcrowding. Ray was upset that the hospital was going to have to discharge Barry without diagnosing him.
Clemente confronted Ray about his negative attitude towards him. He demanded respect from Ray and let him know that he was still a member of the hospital.
Barry pleaded with Ray to let him stay overnight in the hospital. Ray had to explain that taking two pills did not qualify as an overdose. Barry confessed that he wanted to stay in the hospital overnight because he was in love with his best friend's fiancé. Ray told him that wasn't good enough. Barry also mentioned that they were getting married that weekend and he was afraid he would confess his feelings to the fiancé. Being in similar shoes, Ray sympathized with Barry and promised him he would pull some strings for an overnight stay.
Neela presented her big speech at the medical convention and it was a disaster. Her computer was messed up and her presentation was out of order. Nobody came up to help her and then her podium was hit by a paint-filled balloon. Protesters against animal cruelty accused Neela of using rats for her experiments. She defended herself but was drowned out by the protesters. An overwhelmed Neela passed out on stage.
Neela was nursing her bruised forehead and enjoying a martini with Dr. Dubenko. After a rough day at the medical convention, she confessed that the only place she wanted to be was enjoying a movie with Ray back at the apartment.
Neela told Ray that it was in both of their best interests for her to move out of his apartment. Ray was puzzled as to why she'd made this sudden decision. Without admitting it, Neela knew it was because of the mutual romantic feelings they had developed for one another.

episodio 18 - strange bedfellows
Neela's in-laws came to the ER to visit. At the same time, two people were brought in with injuries from a police chase that resulted in a car accident. Neela's father in-law watched as Neela, Abby and Archie worked on the female patient. Abby became annoyed when Neela tried to take over everything so she could impress her father in-law.
Ray and Sam worked on the male patient from the car accident, but he was not responding. Ray wanted the patient to be restrained because he kept moving around. The cops were on hand to keep an eye on their fugitive and make sure he didn't try to escape. The man did not talk, he just moaned in pain because his jaw was broken.
Ray tried talking to the suspected carjacker with the broken jaw and discovered the man was deaf. He was able to write down for the doctors that the girl he was in the car with was high on the drug Ecstasy, and that's why she was being unresponsive.
The deaf carjacker was able to sign to the doctors what had happened. It turned out he didn't commit a carjacking as the cops had reported. Instead, he'd found his friend, Brooke, passed out and he'd taken her in her car to the hospital. She had taken the car from her parents and they'd reported it stolen. On his way to the hospital with Brooke, he saw the cop cars. He kept driving, in fear that Brooke might die if she didn't get urgent care. He was bruised because when the cops finally forced him to stop the car, they beat him up — they'd misread his sign language for gang symbols.
Neela managed to escape the ER to catch a dinner break with her in-laws. She was in the middle of an argument with her father in-law, who felt Neela should move wherever Mike wants to begin his medical practice. Neela's mother in-law disagreed and thought Neela should stay in Chicago where she's happy, and Mike should have to adapt to what Neela wanted. She informed Neela that being a military wife always meant being in second place.
Neela found her mother in-law crying and wondered what was wrong. She informed Neela that she and her husband were separated. They had just been putting on a front. Mike's mother in-law warned Neela, again, of the perils of being a military wife. Neela sympathized with her mother in-law.
Ray was shocked when Archie told him that everybody in the ER just figured he was sleeping with Neela. Ray set them straight, he and Neela were never together, they were just good friends. Archie promised Ray he would stop the rumors going around.
When Ray got home, he found Neela packing her belongings up and moving out of the apartment. She told Ray it was best for the both of them if she stayed in Abby's appartment for a while. Ray was hurt but he understood the reasoning behind the move, she had feelings for him and feared one of them would act on those feelings.

episodio 19 - no place to hide
Sam's ex-husband, Steve, arrived in the ER complaining of stomach pains. Luka offered to give him a nurse other than Sam, but Sam didn't mind. At first, she just thought it was Steve being clever and buying some time away from his jail cell. Clemente wanted to release him, but Neela thought he should stay for observation.
Clemente ran to Steve's side when it was discovered that his appendix had burst. Neela told Clemente that she was right for keeping Steve in the hospital overnight. Sam didn't leave his side as they prepped for surgery. Meanwhile, Clemente continued to get threatening phone calls from his girlfriend's ex-husband.

episodio 21 - the gallant hero and the tragic victor
Morris woke up in Albright's bed, where she was lying naked next to him. He knew that Ray wouldn't believe him, so he took pictures of Albright while she was still sleeping. The next day, Morris bragged to Ray about his conquest. Morris was surprised when Albright continued to be rude to him at work.
Neela received the good news that there was an opening in the ER for a new surgeon residency and she was offered the position. She was excited. But, she had to answer a page before she could celebrate. It was Kovac, who had some other life-changing news for Neela.
Neela told her co-workers about the great news, but nobody was showing enthusiasm on their faces. She was confused about what was going on. Ray found her before she could talk to Kovac and told her that there were two men in military uniform to see her. They had the sad news that her husband had been killed in the line of duty in Iraq. She tried to go on with work.
All of Neela's friends at the ER were trying to console her and urged her to go back to Abby's appartment to rest. She refused. She confessed to Ray that without her husband, the hospital was all that she had and she didn't want anybody's condolences or anybody's help. After Kovac's urging, Neela reluctantly headed home.
Neela's husband, Mike, had left her a video to play only if he died. Neela sat alone in Abby's apartment and watched the video. In it, Mike told her how much he loved her and how much he wanted her to be happy, to get married, again, and to have babies. Neela sobbed as she watched her husband for the last time.

episode 22 - 21 Guns
Ray asked Pratt how Neela was doing since her husband died. He wanted to attend the funeral with Pratt and Neela, but Pratt told him to stay behind. When Pratt arrived to pick Neela up, she was not ready to go. She told him she wasn't ready to say goodbye and move on. Pratt convinced her to go.
Neela attended Gallant's funeral with Pratt. She was upset that Gallant's father approved of a military funeral without her consent. After the service, she told him that Gallant would still be alive if it wasn't for his family urging him to return to Iraq.
Mary, Steve, and his fellow inmate, Hendrix, took the ER hostage. They managed to knock the guard unconscious and take his gun. From there, they took Sam hostage and demanded she find a way to help Steve and Hendrix escape without being noticed. Kovac walked into see what was wrong and Mary injected him with a paralyzing drug.
Sam tried to help a paralyzed Kovac and directed Steve to help her. Hendrix and Steve told Mary to get the van and they would be out shortly. Abby sensed something was wrong, but Mary distracted her. Hendrix pointed the gun at Sam and demanded she go with him and Steve. She had to leave Kovac on the operating room table.
Sam escorted Steve out in a wheelchair and Hendrix was dressed in a guard's uniform. She didn't make any eye contact with her co-workers as she walked past. Abby knew there was something wrong and one of the hospital guards tried to stop the trio from leaving. Just then, Steve and Hendrix pulled out guns and started shooting the place up.
Steve dragged Sam to the getaway van. She pleaded with him to think about their son; he assured her he already had. He opened the van door and their young son was tied up and gagged in the back of the van. Sam climbed in and they sped away with Mary behind the wheel. Meanwhile, the rest of the ER was recovering and trying to help those who had been shot, including a guard and Jerry. Jerry was beginning to fade and the doctors couldn't stop his bleeding.
During the shootout, Abby had hit her head and was knocked to the floor. She quickly bandaged up and began assisting with gunshot victims in the ER. While she was operating, she began to get dizzy. She asked Morris to take over working on Jerry and left to get more supplies. She was also worried because she hadn't seen Kovac.
Neela wanted advice from Pratt. She didn't know how to move on without her husband. Pratt assured Neela that Gallant would have wanted her to move on and be happy. He was interrupted with an emergency phone call from the hospital.
Kovac was still tied down to the operating table. An unknowing Abby was about to enter the room in search of supplies when she stopped and doubled over with intense cramps. Kovac saw her face in the window, but because of the chest tube Sam had inserted in his mouth earlier, he couldn't speak. He tried to get Abby's attention, but couldn't. Abby leaned down and noticed she was bleeding; she got dizzy and passed out. Kovac saw the handprint of blood she left on the window, but couldn't do anything.
